Natural - Thamachat

Natural is also referred to as Thamachat and has certainly got a history in Phuket - lovely to see that they now have a websiteIt is certainly an interesting place to visit - just have a look at their gallery on their website - it certainly is interesting!

So what happens to all the old television sets, irons, masks, trowels, puppets, computer screens, wooden animals and so much more.

Then they have taken time to add plants all around. There are 3 or 4 levels to the restaurant and the staff usually guide you to the appropriate floor - the ground floor is usually the most busy - but there is a small pond there with some big fish in there...

I love their fresh fruit juices made as an iced smoothie - I will usually have two! The food is cooked quickly and there is also a large number of dishes to choose from.

Not sure why there are frog's legs on the menu but there is also a selection of Western dishes.

So what was fabulous - Yam Ma Muang - Spicy green mango salad - fresh and wonderful.

Happy to see that it is still popular with the local Thai people - this is always a good indication of their Thai food. Not all of my visits were great so I was glad that this last visit certainly was an improvement to my last one - back to the old school?

Gotum - coffee (closed)

This coffee shopped seemed to be there in almost a month - but I suppose looking at the half plastered wall...

There does seem to be a trend at the moment to keep the old style and if it isn't there them reinvent it!

Gotum seems also to serve Thai food but I was not here for that.

I smiled when I sat adjacent to a table which was actually a sewing table previously and I immediately thought of Natural Restaurant in Phuket Old Town - is this a trend or is there a great amount of these tables somewhere?

The coffee itself was Traditional Thai Coffee - very pleasant but was a little bitter for my tastes - but this was immediately rectified by some sugar. It was very quiet - was I too early again?

The decor was clearly well thought out but there did were no other customers whilst I was there. It was only until later that I realised that you were able to rent a room above - not sure what that is like though - book here.

One website described it as a Bohemian Art House - not quite sure about that?

China Inn

When I revisit a restaurant I see things that I did not see previously. I found an introduction to the 'China Inn' in the front of the menu.

The history of 'China Inn' or rather 'The House on 20 Thalang Road' dates back to the early 1900.

Chinese settlers built the house in a distinctive style that they brought from 'Malacca' known as 'Sino-Portuguese'. The house front door is testimony to this style, much like the 'Five Feet' way.

Central to this style is the joining of the row houses of Thalang Road.

The position of the water well and the open garden also confirms to the fundamental principles of Feng Shui.

The house was not always like this  - it was restored whilst relying on the local art aficionado and her companion. It took 2 and a half years for them to restore the natural beauty in the way that it was - opening on October 14 2004.

The location was great and the ambiance was exquisite - the food was served to perfection but there was not the perfection that we had experienced previously.

The pomelo salad was very good and was clearly fresh but the other two dishes - which I do not recollect were quite ordinary. Maybe I was expecting too much?

For visitors to Phuket I would certainly advise coming here for lunch - I can only hope that it stays at the same high quality that I now expect.

Natural

We have visited here a number of times and loved it every time.  This is a popular restaurant with a vast menu of Thai food and Western food.

There is a great collection of fruit drinks and the restaurant is scattered with a plethora of different things to look at - vinyl records, old irons, tables which were sewing machines the list is endless.

We visited here when it was quite subdued and I was taking my wife to work - really quite lovely.

The food though was a disaster - the scallops were not cooked through, the shredded mango was clearly not fresh, the squid was luke warm and also not fresh...

Not sure that we will be visiting here again quickly... BUT I do think that it might have been a bad day or they were using product which was 'on it's last legs'?

Natural OR Thamachad (5th visit)

Jemma and I chose to go here again because of the variety of decorations (scary masks personally) but Jemma thought that it was great.  The staff are wonderful and the food was good (and they have ice cream).

Natural restaurant in Phuket Town

We walked through the market and the backstreets of Phuket and came to
Thamachad (Natural) – a quite exquisite restaurant serving authentic Thai food.

The surroundings are a delight and the food matches it - a delight for everyone. Not only is the food special but so are it’s surroundings – the tables have Sewing Machine legs, there is a PC with a fish tank in it, there are some 45’s on the wall and more.

The menu is extensive with both Thai and some Western dishes but I have to admit to always choosing the Thai. BUT they have an extensive ice cream menu for afterwards so make sure that you leave some room!
