Kopitiam

This is a popular place that know that a friend of mine - Jamie likes to visit and it is a popular place for people seeking traditional Thai food. I believe that there is another outlet two doors down from here and that it is air-conditioned but I have not visited there. We like to sit outside and watch the world walk past. If you go in the evening they shine different coloured lights onto the buildings adjacent. If this is what you are looking at the best place is eleven two + company....

Despite looking like the restaurant has been there forever it actually opened in 2011!

Kopitiam is run by the Bumrungwong family who also run the well known herb shop next door - and the family also had the Wilai restaurant which is on the other side of the herb shop. Kopitiam is also called "Kopitiam by Wilai". The Wilai restaurant is now part of Kopitiam - an airconditioned section! And it has a little secret - a passageway through the kitchen leads to the Shrine of the Serene Light which has its entrance on Phang Nga Road one block south. There's quite a bit of history here!
(text is from Jamie)

There are a multitude of choices to make before your dinner - I enjoy the cold beer they serve but there is a 'butterfly drink' which I have been told to try!

Then there is the choice of food - we were waiting for mummy to come home and it was simple foods...

We loved everything and will certainly go again...

Kasa Restaurant (Limelight)

This was a place we visited after we had visited the Indy Market in Phuket Town. Kasa is actually a chain of Japanese Restaurants popular in Thailand.

The saba fish was bigger than we normally get in other restaurants but it was too much for us. I loved the set (as above).

There is a lot of similarity in the

The other dishes were also very good but the food is a lot better than the images indicate.

This was a desert and I am not sure what it was but it was certainly delicious (from what I can remember)...

AND we got a card to collect points - we will visit again
Here's the menu.

Tuna Ichiban

This seemed to be a relatively now Japanese Restaurant which we 'bumped into' on the way home completely by accident. This is near to the park in Phuket Town but only really accessible if you have transport.

This is certainly a place which we have visited more than once now.

I believe that it is part of a chain around Thailand but not added to their website yet. So what did we notice first time that we entered?

The menu was an iPad that you could flick through! I am not sure that it makes people choose more food or that the iPads were purchased because it saves the environment and menus do not need to be printed again and again?

I was put off going here again because they sold shark fin though...

So how was the food?

The tuna was certainly wonderful and fresh (see top) - wow - we had to have more of this.

Then the Sushi was fabulous

delicious

and more delicious

The Sno peas were missing something...

The temaki sushi was a little heavy...

and the salad was certainly fresh.

ซินซิน บะหมี่เบตง

This was a restaurant I got taken to because it purpotedly has the best deep fried pork - and Chuen was right - it is. The lady uncharge was wonderful - we felt invited and felt that we were more than just a customer.

The traditional noodle shop is one of the more restaurants which actually make the noodles fresh and on the premises.

I cannot recall the menus - they were not on the wall this time but were simple laminated fliers given to us when we sat down. Of course I asked for their Iced Tea - which was certainly refreshing - i think what helps is that the

This was a wonderful example of a place to go for lunch...

Well the noodles were created for us whilst we waited and they were certainly wonderful. The rice was served separately from the meat, soup and the garlic with chilli.

You could certainly make it spicy if you wanted to!

However I had the spicy pork served all together. We will certainly go back here again!

เบรคแตก (Brake Taek)

This noodle shop was certainly popular with the local people. It was a great place to visit for lunch.

Immediately I was taken with the fact that the noodles were explained on a card and it made it very easy to choose which one I wanted. The noodles were certainly fresh though and extremely tasty.

Then don't forget to get the crunchy starters...

The restaurant was extremely simple and was where you wanted to go if you wanted to experience the way that the locals choose their noodles.

Be careful with your choice of noodle dish though - there is this chilli mixture in the noodle dish. Not exactly sure what it actually is but it surely is delicious. BUT mix it in carefully...

Then there is the standard mixing agents on the table instead - fish sauce, sugar, fresh chilli and dried chilli.

Funny to think what 'Health and Safety would say about them drying the chopsticks!

The management of all the demands looked wonderful - in the days of all this technology it is wonderful to see people not use them...
