เฮือนภูคำ

เฮือนภูคำ is a relatively new restaurant and is somewhere which has quite a lot of the old style.  The restaurant is outside of Phuket Town and is somewhere that I would like to be successful and not become a simple tourist attraction for the tourist coach.

The restaurant has the opportunity to sit down at the old style tables - I am sure that this even helps the food taste better... - but there is the opportunity to sit at the standard tables.

It is also clear that a lot of thought has got the style of the restaurant. Then the restaurant may look good but the food is not as good as the style that it is presented in.

Then there were some choices of food which were not to my own personal choice though.

The Sai Ua (ไส้อั่ว) were a very real pleasure though.

These are other dishes that we had.

Khun Jeed Yod Pak Restaurant

Khun Jeed Yod Pak Restaurant is a very popular place for the local Thai people and I have since found out that it is also a popular and rated place for people looking for cheap, quality Thai food - in guide books and on the Internet - top 5 roadside restaurants in Phuket.

With it's popularity in Phuket please be aware that you might get there and there might be a queue outside to take away food and also a queue inside for seating.

It's popularity amongst visitors is recognized by them putting the menu on the wall in English and this is much easier to order from.

Before you are seated ensure that you have order some satay from the cooks in the front

because they always make a good start to your food.

Then the wonderful food arrives - and the flavors are wonderful

every dish is succulent and fresh - a very real pleasure

even the plain ones were tasty - fried rice with prawns.  Certainly a restaurant to visit whilst you are in Phuket Old Town.

Approximate Price: $$$$$
Address: 31 Phang Nga Rd, Phuket Town
Time: 9:30am -

Parlai Seafood

Parlai Seafood is somewhere that we like to visit for some authentic Thai food and it is not far from home.

Parlai seafood has a wonderful position on the coast of the Andaman Sea. It is a focus for a lot of local people - there is a community of fishermen and they are often tied up in the early evening. The tables are the regular stone and matching stone seating - really quite uncomfortable sometimes - I think it is dependent on how much you drink or the plastic chairs.

There are the standard aquariums where you are able to choose which particular swimming lobster or crab you wish to eat. This I leave entirely to my wife as I would not know how you are able to choose which one - this is much the same as the fruit sellers tapping the durian with a stick to find out which one is ready?

After choosing from the menu it is always time to order another beer and ice.

The food always arrives swiftly and is freshly prepared - we really cannot fault it - traditional Thai food much loved by the local Thai people and what people come to Thailand for.

Then the sun begins to set and it really is quite a special place.

ไล-บรา-รี่ - Library Cafe (AIS Design Centre)

This was an unexpected pleasure and Bangkok certainly has a few surprises. After viewing the Game of Thrones - Pencil MicroScuplture in The Emporium at the AIS Design Centre.

I continued to walk through and came upon a very large open space - with chairs at one end, with a small coffee bar at at the other a library - it really was quite satisfying.

I ordered a cappuccino and simply watched the world - the library was very quiet and the Cappuccino was surprisingly good quality.

I would certainly got to the library if I needed to and the coffee shop at one end was a very good idea  - I would go again.

Tung Ka Cafe (ทุ่งคา-กาแฟ)

Tung Ka Cafe (ทุ่งคา-กาแฟ) is a place which which is situated just North of Phuket Town on the top of Rang Hill.

There has been some recent development which has made Rang Hill even more popular as a wonderful spot for taking a photo - I did - here's some of my visits.

I find the use of the old coat hangers at the front quite entertaining - I did wonder where they had ended up after the introduction of plastic ones.

There is a great selection of food to choose from

and we are not disappointed with it and there is a lot to choose from. There are also a lot of fancy drinks and deserts - but I am always taken with the coffee.

They seem to have had problems with some tourists clambering into the surrounding area?

A pleasure to see that they still recognize things of religious importance.

I did wonder why there were reindeer on the balcony - it wasn't Christmas. It has become more popular with large tour groups which has devalued our visits unfortunately.

Also a lot of monkeys are outside - be careful.

Backyard Cafe

Backyard Cafe is the third cafe something which has been here on the corner of the road here in the east two years so my first comment would be 'Good Luck'  and I wonder whether it is still there when this is posted?

The decor is really quite interesting to look at but I really would not like to have to clean it all.

I do like these elephants though.

The traditional Thai breakfast was wonderful and I have it every time that I come.

There is also a selection of Western Dishes to have

and of course a coffee... Just read that they do have promotions for the food other Facebook Page.
