Swensens coffee

1st Prize....

Okay Swensens is not known for the quality of it's coffee but this is the WORST CUP OF COFFEE that I have tasted in Phuket - it might have meant to be a cappuccino but it did not taste like either...

Insipid, flavourless - words are unable to tell you how bad it was.

The ice-cream was fabulous though...

Segafredo

Segafredo is an International company and they produce coffees all over Europe.

The Iced coffee was dreadful - it did not taste fresh and the flavour was more akin to microwaved Nescafe OR maybe I have lived in Thailand too long?

This outlet was in Central Department store and it is usually a treat I have whilst my wife is shopping... not this time :-(

West Sands coffee (Splash Jungle)

This was a coffee that I had whilst it was my turn to stay with the bags when we were visiting Splash Jungle. It was surprisingly good, okay the cup was cheap but the cappuccino had flavour, the steamed milk was very good and the coffee was hot.

I would have another coffee AND we will go to Splash Jungle again.

The Chalet

The Chalet is a popular place of ours and their freshly made Yum Pla Dook Foo (Crispy Fish salad with green mango) is a must.

I do wonder when the hotel at the bottom of the hill will open - then there are a row of shops and there is only one which is occupied...

Koffie Terrace

This was a place I chose to escape to because it started to rain during the Phuket Old Town Festival.

What a welcome Koffie Terrace was though - the coffee was sweet and strong - I think that I ordered a cafe mocha. The cakes looked good and the service was happy - WiFi as well

Coffee Ice (closed)

I have no recollection why we were driving down Komarapat Road.

We came across a large building with what looked like and English Telephone box in front of it! (I don't know whether it worked).  We pulled in to the car park to have a look - it was an aquarium selling fish, with caged lizards outside (King Cross Breed).

Then we saw the gorgeous building which we found was called 'Coffee Ice' and what a beautiful find it was. The coffee was smooth and full of flavour (that's how I like it) and the Thai traditional cakes were appreciated by my wife.  The decorations around us were almost European. There was also the opportunity to have a little bit to eat.

We nibbled, read the magazines (Thai) and played with the WiFi.

Wine Connection

We were in Central Festival and we were hungry - we normally choose to go to the Japanese restaurant Zen but wanted something different - there are a lot of different themed restaurants in Central!

We went for Wine Connection - we had been previously but were not impressed by the speed of service... but the meat platter and the pate were wonderful.

We were welcomed and served promptly - the food all arrived at the same time and we were all very happy.

mixed salad with chicken (but there was not a lot of chicken)
mixed meat platter
a lot of bread and butter
cheese pizza
white wine

comfortable and satisfied - thank you

China Inn

This is certainly a wonderful find in Phuket Old Town.

The restaurant does not look like a restaurant but is more like an antiques and cultural store.  It looks interesting from the outside and all that tells you that it serves food is the sign.

On entering you are surrounded by an interesting of cultural items and they are not priced so I am not sure whether the lovely items can be purchased.  Walking through the shop and you enter into a small garden which has tables and chairs to the right.

The tables are small and discrete. The menu is wonderful - we had the mango salad and another two dishes - a wonderful and special experience - recommended.

D Phuket (closed)

This was a restaurant in Phuket Town which I know nothing about but my
wife's Thai friends had recommended it to her.

The ambience was certainly calming - it was almost like a European cafe, very relaxed and calming.  The furniture was not what I expected to see in Phuket Town.  There were tables and chairs to relax in - very European cafe style - and there were tables and chairs to eat in which had Western images of beaches painted on them and the tables were glass topped with sand and shells beneath them!

The food was exemplary - the service was a little slow but worth the wait.

We will certainly visit again...
