The Beach Bar

The Beach Bar is a popular restaurant for us for a number of reasons.

It is next to the sea and there is sand which is always fun for Jemma to play near. The staff all recognise us now which does mean they have an idea of what we want as soon as we arrive.

The food is always good - although sometimes it was too busy and many restaurants are best avoided if they are like this! But we really come her because it is such a wonderful and welcoming place for us - our daughter has something to eat and then plays on the beach in front of us, we have another drink and watch her play whilst the sunsets...

The view is wonderful - the sunset can be perfect, the sky can be bright red - wonderful!

Definitely a place to vist - we sometimes meet Jamie here with his family - it is one of his favourite places in Phuket.

Every weekend in High Season there was a guitarist, they tried to introduce a musicians on the full moon evenings but I do not know how that went.

See you there!

Koffie Terrace

Koffie Terrace was last visited when it was raining and I had to escape! So this means that I know that they take care of their toilets!!

I think that this time I was part of a Phuket Walk and Jemma was with me.

The coffee was a little sweet, the service was wonderful and the location was terribly convenient.

RimTang

RimTang is a restaurant which has got a history in Phuket but there seems to be so little to be read.

This restaurant is on the outskirts of Phuket and it was introduce to me as the place to go if you want to have your Mango and Sticky Rice - so we did.

Superb - we will return again!

BUT there was a lot more here than simply that, not that I knew before we got there however. I would read Jamie's account of food at RimTang for that!

There was an awful lot more than just the restaurant however, dried food, packaged food, toys, sweets, more food.

In fact looking at all the pictures I am surprised that all I purchased was the Mango and Sticky Rice!

Thanoon Seafood Restaurant (านอาหารท่านุ่นซีฟู๊ด)

Thanoon Seafood Restaurant is a restaurant which is adjacent to the Sarasin Bridge and on the other side of the mainline.

This is a restaurant which has steadily become more and more popular and is now a chosen restaurant for many companies. The location is superb - the seating is on the sand close to the bridge or under a roof.

We have been here a number of times but from reading other reviews the location is great but can be (depending on the weather) a little exposed. Reading TripAdvisor there has also bee a repeating problem with the manager of the restaurant but we have never had this.

The menu is in Thai and I believe that there was a menu in English but I did not ask for one. The food was good but the location made it feel all the much better - as we ate there were a number of small groups (max 6) which visited us.

The food was cooked for the Thai guest and it was only whilst I ate that I notice that there seemed to be some dishes which were cooked for the small groups of foreigner visitors?

The prawns were certainly fresh.

The Som Tam and the deep fried fish was definitely something which I would have again!

A great place to visit if you are travelling from Phuket to Khao Lak or the other way around.

Gluay Nam Wa (Cha-Fa Road)

Gluay Nam Wa is a brand of Coffee Shop and of Restaurant. It seems to be very popular amongst the Thai people. It is sometimes served with staff wearing 'horns' and I have yet to understand.

The first Gluay Nam Wa we chose to visit was on the outskirts of Phuket Town, near my dentist which is adjacent to King Rama IX Park.

The outlet was quite small inside but there was further seating at the back and outside, but only when I left I found this out!

The drink selection was great and we all had another one - the food was also good and well priced - but I have to admit that at this point I wanted a table!

The food was certainly tasteful and I was pleased to get rice that was not white!

For the young Thai people it is certainly a place for their standard of Thai food and it does not attract the Westerner.

There was also the opportunity to read a number of Thai fashion magazines or use the free Internet - me I watched the traffic.

Don't forget that there is a geocache in King Rama IX Park next door.

Ao Ke Noodle

หมี่อ่าวเก is a traditional Noodle Shop on the outskirts of Phuket Old Town. If you would like to have what the locals eat then this is the place for you!

The Noodle Cafe is a bit of a scare because it does not look in the best state of repair - but please do not let that scare you away! If you wanted to have noodles like the local people eat then here it is.

The Cafe is busy and the man cooking at the front seems to be managing his job seamlessly!

We had the Tom Yam Noodles and it was great, bursting with flavour and then if you really wanted to make it more spicy the standard set of table spices were there for you!

Okay there is nothing anywhere in any other language in the restaurant  - find your smart phone and download an App called Thai Talking Food menu and go ahead enjoy!

Wow - a place to pop in for your lunch noodles.

Somtam Banthoeng - ส้มตำบันเทิง

Somtam Banthoeng is certainly a restaurant which took me away from where we normally visited.

We drove to a restaurant which was situated next to a large lake. We arrived for lunch and there was absolutely nothing in English - apart from the sign.

So I was happy to let Chuen order everything.

As the ordering began we were given a bowl of fish food and spoons - glad that I did not think think that they were peanuts. We were then told to throw the fish food into the lake where we would be visited by a great number of fighting catfish!

We were visited by a lot!

We fed the fish whilst we waited for our food to arrive. I perused the restaurant whilst we waited and thought that it may be busier in the evening as there were karaoke signs pointing upstairs. The food arrived and we had to make our way to the toilets (a bit crude) before we started at our food.

The food was certainly spicy - the Tom Yam Goong was fabulous!

The beef something was great - spicy and full of flavour.

The chicken wings were certainly little and the sticky rice was great - but the fish liked eating the leftovers!?

The Som Tam was exceptional (almost as good as Nong Soy) but we had too much crab in this one for my tastes.

The beer was cold and wow the bill was small.
