Janjira Dim Sum - จนทรจรา ตมซำ (closed)

Janjira Dim Sum is a most unremarkable restaurant on the side of the main road (Tesco, Central Festival, BigC and next to Index).

This meant that it was a wonderful place to stop and was I happily surprised when I went in - I have subsequently visited here again and written a post on the Cape Panwa Blog  regarding the 6 best Dim Sum restaurants in Phuket (the map is at the bottom).

It is always a good indicator when the restaurant has a continual flow of local residents and this is certainly one of them.

When I sat down I was immediately approached by a waitress who asked me (in English) if I wanted a drink - 'Cha Yen' (iced tea) was immediately ordered.

Within two minutes I was approached by another member of staff who presented me with (what was clearly) a hot tray of an assortment of different Dim Sum. This is where one could immediately feel  worried - what is everything? This I have got no idea. Then I was presented with the most wonderful Chinese tea - so wonderful that this is my Chinese Green Tea to compare all other Dim Sum restaurants to!

But the beauty was that they were not expensive! I think that when I actually visited the cappuccino across the road was more expensive than my dim sum breakfastAfter watching for a while I was also aware that it did not only serve Dim Sum but also traditional Thai food.

Kopitiam

Kopitiam is a restaurant that was introduced to me by Jamie - he also writes a blog about Phuket and this is a restaurant that he frequents quite regularly.

The Kopitiam is a special little place in Phuket Town. The decor and pictures that are on the walls all reflect the history of Phuket Old Town - a popular decorative tool in Phuket Old Town at the moment.

I even found a photograph of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival on my birthday - does this have significance to me? - quite strange in my opinion.

The food is simple Thai food and it it served in a very friendly environment. The restaurant is almost retro in design and is not that old but it looks like maybe - it is actually managed by the family of Guan Choon Toong Traditional Herb Shop around the corner. I am also led to believe that there is a corridor from here to the Shrine of the Serene Light on the other side. Like i46 the coffee shop there is a lot more here than first meets the eye.

The clientele seem to be all staying in the accommodation in Phuket Town OR have they visited it specifically for this restaurant.

The food is simple and quickly prepared and it is tasty - we ate it all so quickly I cannot remember what we had. I also found a food blog / critic review of here... but i forgot what it was - here's a picture. Sam (a food critic) also visited here.

Oh and the beer was cold - we will return.

Fuji

Fuji restaurant is a chain selling Japanese food, this one we chose to go in was located at Central Festival.

The menu was quite large and there was a big selection of dishes - there is even a Fuji App to help you choose and is able to assist you in taking advantage of promotions (but at this time it was not working).

This particular time was lunch time and it did seem to be very busy - but the staff almost seemed to be 'put off' that they were busy - as I played with the iPhone whilst we waited I checked in on foursquare and immediately read two comments that 'the staff should learn to smile' - sometimes this social media is too much.

However when the food game it was very good - the avocado dish was the winner for me - fabulous.

There were other dishes which also looked beautiful.

Then came the 5Baht for the wasabi paste and only one pot of green tea! Ouch!

We would go again for the food but...

Kopi De Phuket (โกปี๊-เดอ-ภูเก็ต)

Kopi De Phuket (โกปี๊-เดอ-ภูเก็ต) is a place that I had visited here previously and I kept going past too early but today I was there for lunch - today it was time for lunch.

It was certainly with the local Thai people and I am glad that I was not alone

Here are some of the previous photographs - because my phone ran out but here's the link to the website for the Phuket Road establishment.
