Embassy Park Plaza (closed)

Embassy Park Plaza is a wonderful place for lunch. It is a very popular place for a great many Thai people who work in the offices around.

So when is street food not street food? When it is served at a table?

Here there are a plethora of dishes to choose from - and I have little to no idea what it all is - sorry there will be no menus, no time to wait and just point and choose it.

My favorite dish is the deep fried chicken served with boiled vegetables and rice.

Just recently I was asked if I wanted mayonnaise and I declined - so the helpful staff pointed at this spicy mixture above and wow it was pure heaven - I have no idea what it was though...

I always get there at about 11:30 am because it can get busy a little later on and yes I am guilty of sometimes wondering how long the food has been sitting there but this soon disappears and I get a smile from the staff - I think I have only ever see one person in here who was not Asian.

There is water on the table but I always take one from the fridge and the whole lot comes to about 80 Baht.
I visit here once a week - don't forget to collect your spoon, fork or chopsticks before you sit down.

Dairy Hut

Dairy Hut is a restaurant that we have visited a number of times and I am surprised that I have not reviewed it.

The Dairy Hut that we go to regularly is near to the Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

It is also a location that Jamie and his family go to regularly.

This is what I usually order when we go - I hope to recall it's name by the time that I complete this but I apologise if this text is still there when you read this.

It is a reasonable quiet restaurant with outside seating as well as inside seating. We have always chose to sit inside and the food that we have had has always been okay to very good! And it is not expensive - so we keep going back.

See you there - I will remember to phone Jamie next time...

Khanohm jeen - ขนมจีน

Khanohm Jeen - ขนมจีน - this is a very popular dish for breakfast. I understand that it has it's origins in Northern Thailand - Wikipedia has a comprehensive outline!

There are two types of khanom chin noodles:
  • Khanom chin noodles made with fermented flour, usually made in the northeast. The brown noodle is stickier than fresh flour and can keep for a long time. This is the ancient method of khanom chin making.
  • Khanom chin noodle made with fresh flour. The noodles are bigger than fermented flour and softer too. Khanom chin noodle is white and easy to make - this is what I had.

When khanom chin is served, stock is added. Each locality has a different stock such as coconut stock, fish, curry sauce, chili sauce, and curry with coconut milk such as green curry, spicy pork sauce, and fish organ sour soup. Moreover, for children there is also a sweet stock without spices combined with nuts.

Kanom chin is eaten with fresh vegetables and pickles as condiments. In the north, pickled cabbage and raw sprouts are typical. In the central region, banana blossoms, lentils, cucumbers, sprouts, raw papaya, basil, guto kola, bitter melon, and morning glory.

Another condiment is half-boiled egg and roasted peppers. In the northeast, fresh vegetables such as white popinac, climbing wattle, and parsley. In the south, fresh vegetables such as parkia, white popinac, olives, and pickles.

We had this breakfast in a small restaurant by the side of the road and it was a wonderful experience - there are a number of places in Phuket but the local places would be the place that I would suggest visiting.

Then more info from Lost Boy. Phuket101 also indicate that it is definitely a dish to try. Looking this up I found that it is included on a trip in Phuket.

Nokban Cafe - ตลาดนัดสัมมากร

A good reason to visit Sammakorn Weekend Market is this small coffee place on the corner.

A delicious iced coffee prepare in a traditional Thai style is waiting for you to get there.

Looking on the Internet there are a number of these coffee shops in Bangkok - even having a Facebook page.

The last time we visited they also served Chinese Tea - I think that was my friends influence but I will go again...

Tuna Ichiban

Tuna Ichiban is a Japanese restaurant that we have visited previously (after a visit to the Weekend Market) and it was certainly worth going back.

There is certainly an extensive menu to choose from and it is one the tablet that everyone gets - I do wonder why you can't use it to order yet though and the staff write it all done but that is for another post...

So I guess that I simply look at the pictures and choose the best ones and guess what they sometimes look as good as the picture does.

Japanese food is certainly something that is not for everyone but we love it here.

เยาว์เย็นตาโฟ 2

This is a noodle restaurant which we have visited a number of tim and every time that I have visited.

This is a local noodle shop which is worth a visit in because it is very cheap and extremely tasty BUT not found a menu in any other language but Thai and wonderful.

There is sometimes a stall at the front with a drink to have. Today there was a great number of choices.

Then there is a great number of choices for the noodles - I think that it may be useful to take an App (Thai Talking Food Menu) with you which can help you choose what you would like to have.

Always worth going in with the App or with someone who can speak Thai.

Then it was time to take the iced coffee home.

Limelight restaurants

There is a very simple selection of Thai food and other reasons in the small number of places on the round floor.

On the ground floor you can purchase a card for 100 to 200 Baht grounds and then you can see at the chances. And then never seems to be very many people here and this is certainly an easy place for lunch.

Then simply found a detail by wandering around. Find the food that you want.

Then collect the cutlery near where you will sit down.

And then food is very cheap.

So it's a great place to have a simple bite to eat...
