The Beach Bar

deep fried fish with chilli sauce
The Beach Bar has been made very popular by the fact that the food is great, the location is great, the staff are so helpful (I still owe them money after Olivier and I ran out)! and Jamie's Blog.

The Beach Bar is exactly that - it is a small restaurant located on the beach - simplicity is sometimes the key to success. It is that simple...

Tom Yam Goong
So over the next months I will make a post regarding some aspect of the restaurant which makes it so special. Today I will focus on the plethora of fabulous dishes.

A wonderful dinner coupled with a fabulous location and I live very close to The Beach Bar so it is incredibly convenient to visit there - it's on the way home from work!

After Beach Bar

After Beach Bar is a place which is in the hills above Kata and Karon - follow a twisting, turning road and you will hear reggae music as you approach - this is it!

If you have been reading blogs and visiting Phuket then this destination is something of a 'Historical Monument' - it has been here ever since, well as far as I can remember.

So when we managed to park the car - if you are on bikes or in a taxi this is much easier we wandered in to grab a seat.

The beer was served very cold and as we watched the sun begin to set I lost my appetite completely and cold beers were enough for me.

There was a newer bar next door (North) and a newer building past that - but the After Beach Bar decided to extend their deck the furthest and the other bars / restaurants have not yet responded (Baan Chom View and Small Viewpoint). Jamie's Phuket blog has some great pictures of them from here.

We did order some food - just nibbles - som tam and grilled squid - both of them were lovely - I was impressed because these are dishes which are really quite simple but are sometimes not always the best. I even found a review from Lonely Planet.

There is a lot of seating and on following visits we have been surprised by the amount of people that do make their way up here to have a few drinks....

Hint: Check the time of sunset and be there approximately 30 minutes before this to try to ensure you get a seat in the front

The Beach Bar

The Beach Bar is a popular restaurant for us for a number of reasons.

It is next to the sea and there is sand which is always fun for Jemma to play near. The staff all recognise us now which does mean they have an idea of what we want as soon as we arrive.

The food is always good - although sometimes it was too busy and many restaurants are best avoided if they are like this! But we really come her because it is such a wonderful and welcoming place for us - our daughter has something to eat and then plays on the beach in front of us, we have another drink and watch her play whilst the sunsets...

The view is wonderful - the sunset can be perfect, the sky can be bright red - wonderful!

Definitely a place to vist - we sometimes meet Jamie here with his family - it is one of his favourite places in Phuket.

Every weekend in High Season there was a guitarist, they tried to introduce a musicians on the full moon evenings but I do not know how that went.

See you there!

The Beach Bar

How many restaurants are there by this name? (This is only a rhetoric question.)

There is only one Beach Bar - actually quite near our home in Ao Makham.

The food is always cooked freshly and the staff always genuinely care about us - even to the point that we did not have enough money one evening - this is what happens if you are lucky enough to be a regular customer here.

So which dishes do you want to order? I don't think that I have ever had a 'bum' dish here so please select whatever takes your fancy.

If you arrive early you will get the opportunity to watch the sun go down and Big Buddha disappear in the distance - a place to visit. It is one of Jamie's favourite restaurants but I haven't met him here yet...

The Beach Bar

I think that I might have been here too many times and been tired of this here - but I haven't. The Beach Bar continues to be a wonderful spot on the coast near Ao Yon and in the South of Phuket.

Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in the amount of people coming here and also the amount of growth along this road BUT nothing has taken away the beauty of this place.

The service is consistently good and this matches the food - every time, but we have started getting their earlier (5:30pm) because it has become so popular.

I hope this continues to be successful and they seem to be open for a longer period around the year.

The beach becoming a location for a wedding in Phuket...

I promised some food photographs so here they are - delicious...

All with a cold beer (of course)

The Panwa Beach Resort

We live near here so whilst there was a friend staying there we took up the invitation for dinner - thank you Claude - see pic (and breakfast on another day).

The Panwa Beach Resort is a hotel situated in South Phuket and is situated next to the beach which makes it very convenient for beach lovers.

We started at their bar where I had a Pina Colada and because they were so good I had another one! Cheun was also enjoying a cocktail.

Jemma was downloading 'Ben the Tractor' on the free Internet.

The dinner was ordered and we moved into the adjacent restaurant where we had a mixture of Thai dishes and of European dishes - I love it when you can simply share the food in the middle of the table - but I cannot recall what we had but it certainly does look yummy!

Then came the Creme Brullee and the top cracked beautifully...

Then the time came for the lovely coffee ...

Then it was time to go home - thanks Claude, see you next time you are in Phuket.

Now that The Beach Bar is closed for Low Season we might make another visit!
