After living in Phuket for 16 years we moved to Bangkok 

- here are some cafes that we visited whilst we were in Phuket.

The Circle Coffee boutique

I took Chuen to work and then wandered aimlessly around and as I turned the corner I found a new coffee shop at the 'Clocktower Roundabout' in Phuket Town - where the Metropole and Phuket Plearn Wan restaurant is.

I entered and was immediately welcomed by happy staff, pleasant music, giggling school girls and comfortable air-conditioning - a hang out for young people.


There was also a boutique shop connected to it - obviously for me - Chuen can go shopping whilst I have a coffee.

Coffee Circle

I realised that I have not written about visiting Coffee Circle very often!

After looking at my check-ins on foursquare that I visit here more often that I have posted here. It is a small coffee shop in the middle of Phuket Old Town - close to - Robinsons, Kota Khao Mun Kai, Svenson Ice Cream, Mee Ton Poe, หมสมจตต,  Hok Ngoun Kung Chinese Shrine and more.

You are able to sit inside with the air-conditioning on a collection of chairs and tables or you can sit outside and watch the world go round - easier when you are waiting to be picked up. I do believe that you can have breakfast there but I never had - it is certainly a coffee and cake place for me.

There are a lot of great cakes.

You can always have a cup of tea?

Don't forget that it does close twice a month. Enjoy your visit

Mee Ton Poe 3

I have posted here previously regarding the authenticity of Thai food at a Thai Restaurant called Mee Ton Poe in the heart of Phuket Town - specifically at the Clock Tower Circle, next to Hok Ngoun Kung Shrine and across the road from Circle Coffee Boutique.

Mee Ton Poe is a restaurant with a history in Phuket Town and it is always frequented by the local people who work around that area, most specifically for it's Hokkien Noodles.

This has led the owners to build a second and a third location where this authentic food can be purchased - leading us to visit one on the way home - it is specifically on the road to our home back from Sapan Hin and is almost opposite the Mangrove Research Center on the same road. The first thing that we noticed was that it was newly built so there was none of the worry if the Health and Safety Pioneers worrying us...

The food was authentic and Chuen (my ever lovely wife) and Jemma (our lovely daughter) both agreed with me - we will visit again.

Mee Ton Poe 3

We popped in here because we knew that the food was good from our previous visits and the food was swift - it was lunchtime. 

Okay it is not the original Mee Ton Poe - that Mee Ton Poe is in Phuket Town near the superb Circle Coffee.

But this was convenient and sometimes we like the more comfortable chairs and tables - the food though is always wonderful - we always have the Hokkien Noodles and they are always great - a place that you must visit.

Kota Khao Mun Kai

Kota Khao Mun Kai is in Phuket Town, near the more famous Mee Ton Poe and my favourite coffee shop Coffee Circle.

Kota Khao Mun Kai is a traditional Thai Noodle Restaurant that we went to because I like to try Noodle Shops and we wanted a big table. It is a traditional Thai Noodle shop with the preparing the foods at the front of the shop and then served from there. They are not always tidy however and they do not place that much attention on the cleanliness of the surroundings but when you live here it is something that you stop doing. But if you are someone who worries about the chopsticks and who had them previously then this might not be the location for you.

Kota Khao Mun Kai is certainly popular with the local people and with the 'Lonely Planet Tourist'  - this is the person who has done a little bit of research before they come OR they simply want to have a go.

So be careful when you go sometimes it can be very busy. The food was wonderful - the plate of the fresh meats to add to your noodles or rice was devoured very swiftly.

The soup was also prepared well - of original ingredients (no MSG here).

As we sat there - having multiple Iced Teas 

I noticed that there was quite an amount of foods which were prepared for people not actually eating in the restaurant itself.

I have no idea about the price differences (if any) but it doesn't matter because the food was very good and was very cheap - we have since been there again.

หมสมจตต - Hokkien Noodles Soup

 What can I add that this text does not to explain what Hokkien Noodles is?

Hokkien noodles. When served in a soup, this is a refreshing dish with round noodles, thinly sliced pork, shrimp and a delicious egg-noodle dumpling stuffed with herbed minced pork. Also in hot demand for the lunch set are ‘dry’ Hokkien noodles, usually stir-fried with a mix of pork and seafood – very hearty and filling, especially if an egg is thrown in.

This noodle shop is next to the more famous Mee Ton Poe Restaurant around the Clocktower at Surin Circle and Hok Ngoun Kung Chinese Shrine adjacent to that.

 The small restaurant is a typical Thai Noodle Restaurant - everything is in Thai and I only saw a menu on the wall!  Just ask for the only thing there in English - Hokkien Noodle Soup.

I had this with a 'Cha Yen' - an iced tea!

The bowl of steaming noodles was very quickly served but was I sure what I was getting? No I wasn't - but it tasted good. It was a bowl of fresh noodles, prawns and chicken served with some small vegetables.

Then came the 'box' in the middle, this is where you choose to add extra things; dried chilli, fresh chilli, salt and / or sugar.

A lovely combination  and I think it all came to under 100 Baht - worth visiting.

Phuketique

Phuketique is a wonderful coffee shop to wait whilst you are waiting for a local bus to arrive. It was called Coffee Max but this did not last very long.

This is certainly a popular place to wait for something - the last time there was a lot more toys inside to to play with.

I always sat outside... Sitting at the Roundabout it is always interesting, always something different.

Then there was a monk today.

Certainly a place to sit and watch the world...
