Central Festival - Zen (closed)

When we want Japanese in Phuket it has to be Zen restaurant.

We always choose a set menu and then gyozas.

Delicious

The Zen that we choose to go to is on the ground floor of
Central Department Store just outside Phuket Town.

Zen @ Central Festival (closed)

Well we can't stay away from here - Zen at Central Festival.

The food is always fresh and the selection of dishes which you can have is enormous.

We had a deep fried fish with a salad, a beef dish 'set' and some gyoza's.

Do not forget to have the Miso soup - superb.

Wonderful

Then I nipped to Swensens across the way to get some ice cream :-)

Zen in Central Festival (closed)

What can i say about Zen's Japanese Restaurant - the restaurant that we have a card for and are always claiming on the card?

Lovely Japanese food and quality service. Choose from the set menus rather than the a la carte menu because it is easier! The a la carte menu is enormous and then there are even more to choose from after that.

I usually have a fish set and order extra gyosas (sp?).

You can drink copious amounts of green tea and the miso soup is to die for - sometimes a little salty but i think that that is more to do with the time that you enter. We have Jemma with us who is 2 years old and they always give her a clever set of chop sticks with an elastic band.

Then we finish with a Swensen's ice cream - seriously good finish, better than the fruit pieces.

Wine Connection

We were in Central Festival and we were hungry - we normally choose to go to the Japanese restaurant Zen but wanted something different - there are a lot of different themed restaurants in Central!

We went for Wine Connection - we had been previously but were not impressed by the speed of service... but the meat platter and the pate were wonderful.

We were welcomed and served promptly - the food all arrived at the same time and we were all very happy.

mixed salad with chicken (but there was not a lot of chicken)
mixed meat platter
a lot of bread and butter
cheese pizza
white wine

comfortable and satisfied - thank you

Job Joob (closed)

Joob Joob is a more popular stop than it shows on this blog - foursquare has the most - each time we go into Central for Zen and other restaurants I like to 'pop in' to Joob Joob.

It is a small place where they create the most wonderful cupcakes - for many occasions - read TripAdvisor for the plethora of different cakes that they have made. When I wrote this post Joob Joob was #1of44 Coffee + Tea in Phuket Town.

Joob Joob is essentially a small self contained kitchen where the cupcakes are created and then displayed and adjacent to this is the wonderful Illy Coffee.

Wonderful for a place to pop in.

Zen Japanese Restaurant (closed)

You are in Thailand so why do you want Japanese food?

You may well be at Central Festival for a bit of shopping and subsequently want a bite to eat for to eat and it is well worth visiting.

This Japanese restaurant is a favourite of ours. We visit here because they have a good selection and is extremely convenient - there are a number of posts on this blog and they do not really vary.

There is an enormous selection of dishes - what you need to look at first is the set menu book.

With the set menus there will be with this - a bowl of plain rice, Miso Soup, a tiny side dish of something. It is definitely a good mixture to have - we always have one or two of these.

Then there are the menus that have all the side dishes - our favourite of these is the Gyoza - deep fried wontons - wonderful, but we ate them before I was able to take a photograph...

Then there is the drink - we are extremely boring and we have a great number of green teas whilst we have our food - always worth a visit.

Joob Joob - Central Festival

After a shop which involved lots of bits and pieces Chuen and I retired to have lunch at Zen in Central Festival. As we wandered through the building we noticed that there was a new outlet - Joob Joob.

This seemed to be wonderful - the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the plethora of little cakes was wonderful.

Approaching the counter made me even more demanding - not one cake but two cakes, the choice was almost impossible.

I chose my two cakes and asked for a cappuccino to go with the two cakes.

It was immediately clear that the cakes were cooked freshly (later I noticed that there was an oven on the premises). The coffee was smooth with only a slight bitter taste (with no sugar added). Chuen went shopping whilst I sat here - lovely.

So why Joob Joob? Apparently Joob Joob is Thai for a small kiss - a 'peck on the cheek' I am led to believe but whatever it is it does make a name that you remember.

I do wonder why people sit in chairs provided by a Cafe but purchase nothing? (if you need Internet I was able to pick up Wine Connection - ssshhh.)
