Swensens Ice Cream

We love to visit Swensens - usually the one in Phuket Town (which has just been renovated) but sometimes the one in Central.

My daughter is going through a phase of being very specific what ice cream, sprinkles, garnish etc and you can do that here (it is a little more expensive) and it gives me a beaming daughter.

BUT the coffee is terrible...

โชคชัยติ่มซำ (Chockchai Dim Sum)

Well this was certainly a pleasant change! No tea and toast this morning but Dim Sum.

The key to my success here was that I had no idea what I was choosing, it didn't matter and it was a nice day!

This is one of the most popular Dim Sum Restaurants (apparently) in Phuket Town - well it was busy I can vouch for that.

Dim Sum is a different way of eating and it is best to have someone (for me my wife Chuen makes all the choices) who know what they are doing - first time?

The staff will show you a tray of an enormous variety of little choices of food (see photo above) and you simply choose from this selection. If you do not know what you are choosing then this is where it is difficult because some of the oddest ones are the greatest! For example the green stringy thing is fantastic but I do not want to know what it is!

The selective small trays are chosen and then it's time for breakfast! At โชคชัยติ่มซำ I also know that they have a selection of Thai dishes as well - so we had a mixture.

I could not eat everything that I chose however (see above) - but that is half the fun - it is not expensive!

As we finished I then remarked that they could also do cappuccino! - this seems to be a growing trend now!!!!!

We left and we would return - on looking up โชคชัยติ่มซำ on the computer I was a little surprised at how it was represented on Foursquare - Visitors: 837 and Check in: 1,634.

หมสมจตต - Hokkien Noodles Soup

What can I add that this text does not to explain what Hokkien Noodles is?

Hokkien noodles. When served in a soup, this is a refreshing dish with round noodles, thinly sliced pork, shrimp and a delicious egg-noodle dumpling stuffed with herbed minced pork. Also in hot demand for the lunch set are ‘dry’ Hokkien noodles, usually stir-fried with a mix of pork and seafood – very hearty and filling, especially if an egg is thrown in.
(the text is from mydestination.com)

This noodle shop is next to the more famous Mee Ton Poe Restaurant around the Clocktower at Surin Circle and Hok Ngoun Kung Chinese Shrine adjacent to that.

The small restaurant is a typical Thai Noodle Restaurant - everything is in Thai and I only saw a menu on the wall!  Just ask for the only thing there in English - Hokkien Noodle Soup.

I had this with a 'Cha Yen' - an iced tea!

The bowl of steaming noodles was very quickly served but was I sure what I was getting? No I wasn't - but it tasted good. It was a bowl of fresh noodles, prawns and chicken served with some small vegetables.

Then came the 'box' in the middle, this is where you choose to add extra things; dried chilli, fresh chilli, salt and / or sugar.

A lovely combination  and I think it all came to under 100 Baht - worth visiting.
