On the Table

There are a number of OntheTables in Bangkok and we are usually happy when we go there. The company is actually recognized as OnthetableTokyoCafe

We have visited here more often now that we have visited the outlet here and elsewhere in Bangkok. They have an interesting philosophy -

"Consectetur, adipisci velit, sed quiaony on numquam eius modi tempora incidunt, ut laboret dolore agnam aliquam quaeratine voluptatem. ut enim ad minima veniamting suscipit lab"

I have no idea what this is or why the company chose it?

Anyway - the food clearly has a Japanese influence - there are Western style salads served with wasabi and they were wonderful.

It was very busy at lunchtime...Then there were some gyoza wrapped in bacon - delicious.

The chunky potatoes were tasty as well...

Then there was a pork chop - tasty...

The mango smoothy was very nice.

Then it was time for pudding...

Greyhound Cafe - Megabangna

Greyhound Cafe is a popular chain of restaurants that we stumbled upon whilst we were purchasing some furniture at Megabangna. Megabangna is an enormous complex of shops that is impossible to believe - it is said to be one of the biggest shopping malls in Asia.

We were starving and I was worried that we would not be served quickly but we were and the food was definitely worth it.

The restaurant was tastefully decorated and there was a simple Western menu. The food was wonderful - every little morsel which we had was great.

If I was at home I would have licked the plate...

Thought the side dish was funny.

Central Food Loft

Central Food Loft is on the top floor of a popular shopping mall - Central Chidlom. It is tastefully organized and there are a great number of choices for you - from Asian food to French mussels.

You take a card when you enter and then give the card to each cooking station and they add on what you have received - much like a traditional food mall but I would imagine that this description would not be well received.

It is a wonderful spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets of Bangkok - the service was exemplary and the air-conditioning was welcoming.

However if you are looking for some delicious food then it was not what we found - but if you are looking for a 'trendy and upmarket dining concept' - then this is successful.

The cakes were very nice though.

Patio Al Fresco @ Phuket Panwa Beachfront Resort

Patio Al Fresco was part of the Crowne Plaza last time we visited and it was only called Patio. This time we chose this time to go for a special occasion - it was a special birthday and restaurant part of Panwa Beachfront Resort.

We had a wonderful view...

We chose to have the starters (and a bottle of wine) close to the sand and it was a lovely position. The starter was the selection above and it was very nice but I really think that they should remove the stones from the olives - it was expensive.

Then there was another state - the beetroot and gnocchi chess - this was delicious.

Then there was another bottle of wine and we moved towards the inside - and the main courses began to arrive. The grilled lamb was the special of the week - very nice but I do wonder whether it was what is described as lamb in the UK?

The steak was better...

Followed by a selection of cheeses...

and then a coffee.

Thank you very much for a lovely evening - and the mosquito spray.

The Cove

The Cove is a restaurant (and cottages) which took over from 'The Secret Cove' and next to 'The Ship Inn'.

Well we were a little taken aback when we first visited - because it was so nicely done.

We love to sit adjacent to the waters edge but raised up onto a small wooden platform above it - a wonderful place to watch the sun setting...

The food is predominantly Western but there are Thai dishes available - but we enjoy the Western.

Predominately we choose to have something from the selection of fish

- our daughter is very happy with the pizza.

The cocktails are very nice - some more than others

Chapter 12 Steak Bar and Bistro

Chapter 12 Steak Bar + Bistro in Phuket Town serves a variety of steaks, spaghetti, salads and also desserts. We chose to go in here for somewhere different.

When we arrived there was nobody else there and nobody came in whilst we were there. The theme of the restaurant was very nicely reflected in the choice of the furnishings - it would be very photogenic to say the least.

The walls have what I would think is a great number of photographs of the foods served here adorning the walls.

But I could not find our dishes on the wall... We tried some of the food here and they were certainly beautifully presented but we felt that it was more 'style over substance'?

Or is it because we have become accustomed to the bite of the Thai food?

If you need Western food I would recommend coming here...

PS - the pudding was great...
