Insects

I have previously written a post about Insects (Bugs on the Streets) BUT this time I wanted to take photographs carefully.

We were visiting the Phuket Weekend Market and here they have a plethora of different foods available which are always worth a try BUT I will write about this later.

The street foods can be found on the right hand side of the market (if you are looking at it whilst standing in front of Wat Naka).

There was a lady standing behind the small stall and she had a 'collection' box for people taking photographs. I deposited the money and watched.

The lady collected the insects from the piles.

She then sprayed something on them?

Then she cooked them a little (see left at back of pic), squirted something on them? and I ate the one that you can see above.

Well not ate because although it was initially soft one of the legs was stuck between my teeth and this was after the crunch - I think that next time I will only choose the soft ones?

Have a look at Willy's Phuket 101 site for a description of how they do taste...

Phuket International Airport Coffee

I enjoy coffee and as I am so lucky that Chuen takes care of the tickets I like to wander about - today I wanted a coffee at the airport whilst I waited before the gates to be ready.

Very nice cappuccino - smooth, milk frothed and a sprinkle of cinnamon on the top...

BUT in a squishy cup - next time?

Biscuit

Okay for a number of visitors to Phuket without transport this may be a little too South for them - unless you are staying in the Cape Panwa area however.

This means that for me this coffee shop is on the way home from work - it is part of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

So one evening we stopped for a biscuit and a coffee. I do understand that we were their last customer of the day and they had run out of all but 2 cakes but I do like my cakes.

The biscuit was great however and Jemma was unable to eat all of it. The coffee was smooth and surprisingly tasty, i did ask what brand of coffee they used but she was unable to tell me.

Definitely worth it if you are in the area and next time I hope to try a cake (and the kid's club).

Since 1982

On a morning of wandering around Phuket Town I almost stumbled upon this special little place.

We sat here after dropping our daughter Jemma off at school - Chuen used the Free WiFi and I drank coffee. The surroundings were great and very interesting - so interesting that I forgot to take photographs  - next time.

The Chalet

The Chalet is a small restaurant with a view from the side of a hill and it also offers accommodation. I have not seen the accommodation but the food is still good.

The food is always freshly cooked and the staff are always pleasant.

This is very convenient for me and there is a small play area for my daughter to enjoy so that is my first reason to visit. The Crowne Plaza has opened opposite it and I would imagine that business is increasing but I would have to ask.

Rassada Coffee

Well I needed an early morning coffee and I chose this convenient coffee shop - there were some cuddly toys for sale at the front and I could watch for my wife to come out of the bank opposite.

As I waited I spotted these great chopstick learning tools.

BUT the coffee was dreadful - but Jemma's getting better at using chopsticks!

Radsada Handmade is almost opposite - a great shop.

Top of the Reef @ Cape Panwa Hotel

This restaurant is a fine dining restaurant serving quality food types and has a very French influence - so much so that if you really want snails you can - I think that it is Pork with pistachio and snails. It is found at the very South End of Phuket at Cape Panwa Hotel.

The dinner began with a personal welcome from the Maitre-de - Khun Assaree. I do not recall any time that I have been here and he has not but that is irrelevant.

Anyway this beautiful dinner began was set immaculately - the teachings from my mother how to use the knife and fork on the table certainly paid off.

The bread was fresh and the butter cold - a very good start.  My starter of deep fried oysters with garlic mayonnaise served on a bed of seaweed was divine. This was followed by a sorbet to 'cleanse my pallet' and the joys of the dishes continued - I could not pick a favourite. The foods were wonderful - already looking forward to another visit.

But I do know that they serve Beef Wellington on a Sunday...
